The Child Mimic

My son is now 2 years old and he is a mimic. He mimics my actions, my words, my attitude. James 3:1 says "Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly." This is a challenge for us as leaders and as parents. My son, with his new mimic skill set, will treat his mother, his future wife, and women in general the way he sees me treat my wife. As fathers, we have to be aware of the power we have as models for our children's behavior. If we treat people with love and respect, our children will learn to treat people that way too. Conversely, if we treat people harshly, that will be the behavior our kids mimic. What are you modeling to your children?

What's Next?

Every week at Church at the Bay, we talk about our "next steps" in following Christ. Below is a link to a blog post by Perry noble, the lead pastor of Newspring Church in South Carolina. The illustration is something all former, current and future fathers can relate to.

Are You Using God or is God Using You?

We are all very talented people in our own right. God has blessed us with so many different abilities and gifts from birth, and we have cultivated them throughout our lives. But, are we using them only for ourselves, or are we using them to help others find Jesus Christ? God isn’t impressed with the gifts you have or disappointed with the gifts you don’t have. What means something to God is how you use what He gave you, whether that be your ability to carry 400 pounds on your back, or whether you can speak like Winston Churchhill. Here is a daily devotional post from Rick Warren, author of the Purpose Driven Life, on the very subject of using our GOD-GIVEN talents.
